Now there's a great place to stay on Sand Patch Grade while visiting this railfan mecca.
The SECOND BEST PLACE is a (Railfan Lodging) Bed and Breakfast located at the
northwest corner of the CSX Keystone Subdivision grade crossing in Fairhope, PA, it's
only about 500 feet to the crossing. A ridge blocks the view to the cottage but a good
view is just steps away across the manicured lawn.
The SECOND BEST PLACE is a single cottage that will sleep upto 6 with 2 double beds
and a pull-out sofa. It is equipped with everything necessary to call it home. There is
also spaces for RV or tent camping in an area of this 11-acre site that gives direct views
of the CSX Main. Owners Earl and Shirley Cummins reside on the east side of the
suspension bridge and will check you in upon arrival. A reservation is strongly suggested,
and CASH is the only accepted form of payment.
As for the second "B" part of the B&B, most railfans will likely perfer to pre-buy groceies and
breakfast items at Sheets of a grocery in Hyndman or Cumberland, to be ready trackside in
