From the comfort of my bed I was able to look out my 4th floor window and watch
the trains wisk by. For those traveling with children, the frequency is so great
that your little one my not want to fall asleep. Request a 3rd or 4th floor room
on the south side of the hotel to ensure your train watching ability.
The Norfolk Southern (ex-Conrail) mainline is the railroads main east-west artery
from the New York City metro area. The tracks are elevated through this area as
eastbound trains are approaching the bridge crossing the Delaware River.
Unfortunatly, there are no crossings to give warning of an approaching train,
however with a good scanner you may pick up two radio (talking) train detectors
on the Norfolk Southern Lehigh Line which may be able to be monitored in the Easton
area. These are 8 miles to to the East at at “Bloomsbury,” MP 68.8, and 5 miles to
the to the west at “Richards” MP 82.8. Easton is MP 77. Monitor 161.070
The majority of the traffic during my August, 2002 stay was TOFC, COFC, Stacks
and Road Railers. NS stuck in a few mixed freights to keep things intersting.
The only thing that seperates you from the tracks is where most railfans will
choose to eat. The hotel has a longue that serves food.
This hotel was in the process of being remodeled during my visit, and it needed
it. Submitted by: Chris Hash 8.2002
