For a trip along the Santa Fe from Kingman to Amarillo (using old Highway 66 wherever possible), my wife and I stayed at the Clovis Inn. It is across the highway from the mainline, east of downtown. It was clean and reasonable, and we were able to get a room with a fairly good view of the tracks.

Room 200 overlooks the BNSF main line and yard tracks. There are grade crossings near that might keep some awake all night. Tons of trains!

One of my favorite motels in Clovis, previously known as the Motel 6, was bought out by an individual, who took advantage of Motel 6 not being able to make its lease on the buildings. Interestingly, the new owner changed the name of the motel to "Motel 7" (really ingenious eh?). I made a late night call to the front desk, and they stated their rates are approx $33 (plus tax) for one person.
