Super 8

Location Rating: T-D-2

I stayed at this motel September 2000. I agree with Rolland's report on the property. I have included some photo's I took from my second floor window. You can see the obstructions which rates this location a "D" in the view category. If it wasn't for the sign / telephone poles which are scattered between the motel and the railroad it isn't a bad view. The train's are close enough to see the engine numbers without trouble, though the train's do move past quickly. There are usually no more than 20-24 train's during a 24-hour period. (Price starts at $55.99 without discounts in June 2009)

Located off I57 on US 24, the Super 8 is a pretty good place to watch the Canadian National run. You should ask for a 2nd floor room on the West side of the Motel. The rooms are very nice but it is not the best for taking pictures from the windows. I stay there when I go to the Rochelle Railroad Park.

You can walk a short distance from the motel to the Amtrak stop and sit and wait, I saw 6 trains in about 6 hours. There is a KH Truck Stop across form the Motel, the food is great. There is also the standard McDonalds and Wendy's west of the IC grade Crossing
